The prompt this week was “the best gift you’ve ever received,” but I really can’t choose one. So instead, I’m going to share a few great bookish gift ideas (some I have received) that most book-lovers would enjoy!
- A subscription to a literary magazine. My favourites are Bookmarks, which is great if you’re a fan of literary fiction. They review recent big releases, but also have features that spotlight authors or books set in particular places or about particular topics. One of my favourites was books set in Cuba. My other favourite is a Canadian one called Quill and Quire, which has similar coverage, but tends to feature more Canadian content and can be a little more focused on social and political issues. Both are wonderful deliveries for book lovers!

A book journal. I know, we all just use Goodreads these days. But I also love to keep track of my books in written form, and I find it to be oddly satisfying to fill in the details myself. I like Book Riot’s reading journal, though there are several really good ones.

Beautiful coffee table books about books and reading. Two of my favourites are By the Book by Pamela Paul and Bibliophile by Jane Mount.
So there you go, some great presents for book lovers, including one that’s like a bunch of little presents stretched out over a year. Not exactly what the prompt called for, but the best I can come up with today! What about you guys? What did you do for this week’s prompt?
Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is a blog hop hosted every Wednesday by Long and Short Reviews. The weekly prompts range widely, including both book-related and non-book-related topics. The idea is to get bloggers to interact, share a bit about their lives and connect with other bloggers. Click here for the list of upcoming topics, and visit here to join in the fun!
I like the idea of a book journal.
Thank you! I love notebooks in general, so having one to write about books in is lovely!
Very nice list!
Thank you!
Those are great ideas. I tried to answer the question “as asked” — to pick an actual, physical gift — and ended up with a memory of my mother.
I tried that. It spectacularly did not work! Then I started writing about how much I love my kid, but I try not to share too much about my family, so that felt weird. Then I tried to think of one big gift, but none stood out. So I gave up and this was what I finally settled on! I did enjoy yours (I think I got distracted before commenting, but I did read it!) – ah the things we can’t leave lying around with kids in the house, like knives. sigh
A subscription to a literary magazine is a great pick!

It’s the gift that keeps on arriving in your mailbox over and over again – the best kind!
