WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | BEST MOTHER IN A BOOK

Well, this one has a few different answers, because there are so many different types of mothers and kids, and sho many different ways to be awesome at raising a tiny human. Here are some of my favourites:

Gerald Durrell’s mother is an odd mix of impulsivity, impracticality and a shit load of bravery. She was a single mom back in the 1930s who uprooted her family and moved them, seemingly on a whim, to Corfu. She didn’t have much money, didn’t speak the language, and was all on her own with a whole brood of kids to raise, but she took them on a gutsy adventure and it paid off in confident kids who followed their passions and took the world by storm. Mrs. Weasley from the Harry Potter books is one of my all-time favourite moms. She had so many kids, and yet she managed to give each of them what they needed and be a tremendous force to be reckoned with into the bargain. And then there’s Marilla from Anne of Green Gables. What she lacked in maternal instinct she made up for in steely resolve, loyalty and love, even if it didn’t appear like you normally imagine it.

What about you guys? Who are your favourite fictional moms? Are any of my picks on your list?

She has become my first go-to when I think of a mom I admire, and I loved the relationship between Marilla and Anne. They were so different, and yet totally devoted to each other.

Ooooh no, I haven’t! I got to the first book after Anne gets married (won’t say who she marries because spoilers in case anyone else ever reads my comments), but that’s as far as I made it. I am hoping to read them with my kid at some point and get through more! I’ll have to look for that one!
