I totally missed this week’s Wednesday post – oops – so here it is a day late! This is a hard one, because I feel like most of my best friends are in books, and there are so many I’d love to meet. Anne from Anne of Green Gables, Helene and the crew from 84, Charing Cross Road, Cassandra Mortmain from I Capture the Castle, Hazel and Augustus from The Fault In Our Stars, Hermione, Sirius Black and Mrs. Weasley from the Harry Potter series – even the Queen from The Uncommon Reader. But if I had to choose just one character from all the books I’ve ever read to meet, I think it would have to be Matilda from the book of the same name by Roald Dahl. I’ve always felt a connection to her, but lately I’ve been reading Matilda with my kid, who has developed a strong attachment to and obsession with her. So that love I’ve always felt for her has now been strengthened by the new associations with cosy cuddling reading time with my own kid, something I’ve been waiting for and looking forward to since becoming a mum! So, if I had to pick just one of the many characters I already count amongst my closest friends and confidantes, Matilda would be the one.
How about you guys? Which character from literature would you most love to meet? Did any of you choose Matilda (or any other characters from childhood literature) yourselves?

I love Matilda, but thank you for reminding me of Cassandra Mortmain, who I would also love to meet.
I loved both of those characters so much, particularly when I was younger. It’s been fun to re-visit Matilda lately!
