WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | DESIGN YOUR PERFECT WEDDING

Okay, so here’s the thing. I’m not a wedding person. I didn’t dream of white dresses and veils when I was a kid. I didn’t plan the ceremony and reception down to the last detail. I don’t really like romance novels (I just don’t buy them most of the time) and, quite frankly, I’m starting to think marriage is a bit of an out-moded idea, at least in the traditional sense. I guess I’m just too cynical and jaded and don’t have that romantic gene. So this isn’t really a prompt I have much to say about. My wedding was not a big deal. I wore a second-hand dress I got for like 30 bucks and we did it on vacation with only two friends there to be witnesses. The vacation part was amazing, and I guess the wedding part was nice, but I didn’t really enjoy it – I mostly felt self-conscious and awkward. Didn’t help I was recovering from a nasty bout of food poisoning! So I guess if I were to try and plan a more traditional wedding, I wouldn’t really have a lot of ideas. Maybe calla lilies? They’re nice, I suppose. I guess I’d want to have a few people there, but honestly I’d just as soon make it a casual, spur of the moment thing and not have to dress up. And I guess if I could choose a place for it, I’d choose Italy because I’ve never been and it looks nice (at least there’d be good food)!

Mostly I think it’s good to have special days to remember in a relationship for when the chips are inevitably down, and it’s great to have a family celebration if that’s what you want. But I think the marriage matters way more than the wedding, and with how much they cost these days, it’s probably better to have a more casual affair and put that cash into either a proper vacation or, you know, buying a house! But that’s just me.

What about you guys? Do any of you have more of a wedding interest than I do? What kind of thing would you want? Anyone else out there who just isn’t all that fussed about weddings like me? Am I the only one?

Note: As of earlier this week, the site that hosts this link-up has gone down. I’m not sure if the owner deleted the blog or if they are working on restoring it, but as of now any links to Long and Short Reviews will not work – this isn’t an error in the link. I’m leaving it as is in case it is restored! If you have written a post this week please add the link in the comments down below so I can come and read it (along with anyone else reading this)!
