WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | FANTASY ANIMAL I WISH WERE REAL

I haven’t ever thought much about fantastical animals. Or at least I didn’t – then I had a small child. All of a sudden, they are very much a part of my day-to-day life. Now it seems like they are everywhere. Dragons on the kitchen table. Winged lions on the bathroom counter. Fairies on the dresser. Unicorns… well, EVERYWHERE. I hear so much about unicorns that it’s an easy one to call out here – it would definitely make my kid happy. But I think, if I were choosing one just for me, phoenix would probably be the one I’d choose. First of all, just the whole concept of them is cool. They’re smart, apparently, and strong. But also I’ve lost several beloved pets in my life, so the idea of a pet that is continually dying and being reborn is appealing. Then you just get to keep starting over. So it’s a hard call. If you ask my kid, the answer would definitely be unicorn, pegasus or allicorn (a combo of the two).

What about you guys? Any fantastical animals that are rarely talked about that strike your fancy?

I mean, it’s hard to argue with unicorns, but I think I like your choice of Phoenix better. Something about a creature that burns itself down and starts over is strongly appealing, maybe more appealing than something that’s pure and noble and never wrong to begin with.

Haha! Yeah, they are hard to argue with. Sneaky buggers. I think that’s probably it. I have a definite wish to be able to do that – the idea of rebirth and being made whole again is really appealing to someone with chronic illness, I think! You’ve nailed it with that description. Very well put.

I agree on phoenixes! I wouldn’t be surprised if unicorns were real, though I don’t know why. I didn’t know they’re the official animal of Scotland! I should have, as one branch of my family is from there. Very exciting! Thanks for sharing!
