WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | FAVE NATURE/OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Me and the outdoors… it’s complicated. I love getting outside in Spring and early Summer. I love digging in the dirt, I love feeling the breeze on my face, smelling the plants, feeling sun on my face. But nature, it does not like me. I’ve developed increasingly bad allergies, and now those tie into my lung issues, and then in the summer the air quality is usually worse. The whole thing combined means outside is tricky now. That said, I’m hoping I can piece together enough days that I can go outside to grow some herbs and flowers in my planters. My kid grew some amazing beans last year (the really big plants in the photo below) so hopefully we can do that again this year.

I also like going for walks, particularly if my kid is with me and we can talk about the trees and animals we see. Before life got tough, I used to love skiing, beach volleyball and biking. Haven’t been able to do those in a while, but they’re still things I have great memories of!

What about you guys? What do you enjoy doing in nature? What is your favourite season to spend time outside?

Oh, I’d forgotten about skiing! I love that, or I used to — I’d probably hurt myself nowadays. But I’d have fun getting there. My answer is here.

Oh, allergies… they really do bring folks down. I sweep and dust yellow pollen for months… hope you have a good spring/summer!

Yeah, I never used to have trouble with them, but every year it seems to get a little bit worse! Ah well, at least the weather’s nice… no wait, it’s raining again. Gotta love the west coast!

I enjoy gardening, but can’t get down on my knees which limits what I can grow. Lots of the ones in this group like gardening.

Yeah, I have a back injury too so I have to be careful. Right now I only have containers on my patio, so no real weeding or digging to be done, which is good for my back but sad because it limits what I can grow! But even a few planters is better than nothing! I highly recommend Nasturtiums. Easy to grow, they grow fast, and the leaves and flowers are edible if you like salads. They’re one of my faves!

They can. I’m hoping to find better options for dealing with them – it’s mostly worth it just for the outdoor time though. I love the smell of spring in the air and watching plants begin to grow!
