WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | FILMS TO WATCH ON A BAD DAY

Okay, so this is definitely an area where I’ve got a lot of experience. Historically, between mental health, physical illness/pain and just, you know, life, I’ve had a fair few of them. And dealing with them by watching films is definitely a thing I have been known to do. So here are some that I love that hit in various ways – funny, quirky, nostalgic, people killing each other so suddenly your life seems better, the whole shebang.

  1. Amelie – my all time favourite movie.
  2. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
  3. The Jane Austen Book Club
  4. Calendar Girls
  5. Saving Grace
  6. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
  7. 84, Charing Cross Road
  8. Under the Tuscan Sun
  9. Remember the Titans
  10. The Hangover
  11. Any action movie with lots of shooting and a decent plot
  12. It’s not a film, but I just binged the entire first season of The Night Agent and it definitely kept me fully immersed and not thinking about crappy life stuff!

I know there are more, mostly old ones, but those are the ones that come to mind. I don’t actually watch that many movies these days, I mostly watch TV these days, so this was a harder one for me! What about you guys? Do you enjoy any of the movies on my list? Which one do you watch when you’re having a bad day?

Ooooh, Amelie is just delightful. It’s a quiet movie about not much, but it’s so sweet and lovely! I hope you do manage to get to it at some point if that sounds like your cup of tea!

You’re so right! The Jane Austen Book Club isn’t a perfect film, neither are the characters, but there’s something about it that I really liked. Maybe it’s the diversity of characters – in terms of lives, ages, personalities – or maybe it’s just the way books manage to interact with their lives and draw them together. Whatever it is, though it’s a bit sappy and overwrought at times, I do like it!

Thanks! I loved the whimsy and creativity of Amelie, plus as a bit of an antisocial person who still does want some real connections (if only a few), I felt very strongly connected with the character. And Best Exotic Marigold is just so full of hope and life, and I love when older people are still protagonists in stories. I hate the way they are shuffled aside in society rather than being valued for their experience and knowledge. And I like when they are still allowed to have adventures! Plus, I mean, Dame Judi Dench. Need I say more??
