My answer for this week’s prompt might seem like a bit of an odd one. And it is, really. Because in addition to being the funniest book I’ve ever read, it’s also one of the most intense and serious books I’ve read.
For those of you who aren’t familiar (you can click on the cover above to read my review and more about the book), Jenny Lawson is the blogger behind the very popular and award-winning blog, The Bloggess. Her hallmark is writing about horrible things with total hilarity. She can make anything funny. She has made me laugh about self-harm, depression, social anxiety and paranoia. Harder than I’ve ever laughed at anything.
I think one of the things that makes this so funny to me, in particular, is that it’s just so incredibly close to home. I suffer from anxiety and depression. Mine aren’t as severe as hers, and they don’t manifest in the same way, but goddamn, it’s some heavy shit. And it really is a situation where I absolutely have to laugh my ass off or I won’t be able to get out of bed anymore. Jenny helps me do that, and do that while feeling like even if I’m totally nuts, at least I’m in good company. Her books have meant so much to me, and I honestly don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t found her. Read this book. If you don’t recognize yourself, you might recognize someone you know. And if you don’t recognize anyone you know, you’ll at least have some laughs.
What about you guys? Have any of you read any of Jenny Lawson’s books? Which book did you pick for this week’s prompt?

I’ll have to check that one out.
Oh, wonderful choice! I love her writing so much. I made a couple of fiction suggestions over on the Blog o’ Doom:

Her books have definitely helped me deal with crappy things, and she’s always one who can make me laugh!
I have depression and anxiety, too. This looks like a very good read, indeed.
I highly recommend any of her writing if you’re looking for writing on those topics. She’s hilarious, but also honest and though none of her work is self help, it has always helped me take a deep breath and decide to keep fighting, even when I feel like I’m out of will power. Great role model.
