This prompt feels uncomfortably close to asking me for new year’s resolutions, and I don’t do those. I don’t really attach much significance to a new calendar year, I kind of feel like every day has the same potential for change and growth as January 1st. But I’ve got a few things I’d like to work on, or keep working on, so I’ll put a few down here.
- If I’m being honest? Just not die. That’d be a good start. I know that we’ve come a long way in dealing with COVID, but people are still dying from it, or if not dying from it, becoming very ill or experiencing lasting damage. I don’t want any more medical issues to manage. I don’t want to go through another bout of not being able to breathe, no matter the cause or duration. So I’m really hoping I can make it through this in one piece.
- Keep working on my physical health. I’ve got some medical issues, and I need to keep trying to find ways of helping my body deal with them. I got a FitBit for Christmas, so I’m hoping that will help me get a better sense for areas I need to work on.
- Get my reading mojo back. It seems that November and December are just down time for me, reading-wise. Two years in a row my reading drive has gone dormant during these winter months. But we’re in January now, so I’d like to try and get back into the swing of things.
- Spend as much time as I can with my kid. This is a challenging time. For my whole family, and, I’d wager, for most of yours. But I hate that it’s having such an impact on the little ones. Missed school, not being able to socialize freely or have proper playdates – it’s breaking my heart. I can’t fix it. But I can try to find some fun things we can do together – it won’t make up for what’s being missed, but maybe it’ll add some good memories in with the bad.
That’s it really. There are lots of things it would be nice to do, but I won’t. So any progress on these things is good enough for me. What about you guys? Any goals for 2022?

Not dying is a great goal.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen a huge uptick in the number of people I know who have caught Covid in the last few weeks.
May you stay safe and healthy.
Yeah, it feels like it’s circling ever closer. It’s hard having medical issues and being acutely aware that I might get it and feel yucky but get through it, or… not. The uncertainty is the hardest part, and the growing feeling of inevitability. I hope you and your people all manage to stay safe as well.
