WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | HOW I FEEL ABOUT STAYCATIONS

How do I feel about staycations? I freaking love them. I hate packing. I have never loved traveling since becoming an adult and no longer being able to curl myself into an airplane chair. Now I have a back injury, anxiety and allergic asthma that is triggered by everything from strong cologne and perfume to Tide laundry detergent. What are the chances of surviving a tightly packed flight with all the smells each person carries on board with them? What are the chances of finding a hotel whose sheets don’t close up my lungs? It’s terrifying to think of traveling now, and that’s without considering COVID-19 and my ongoing reliance on masks. So I’ve always loved staycations – my own space, all my hobbies, all my books, my cats, the food I like, my own bed… just time to relax and let myself drift in whatever strikes my fancy. But now, they’re pretty much the only form of vacation that’s an option to me.

That said, there are things I miss about traveling. Mostly I’ve been wanting for years to go back to England and introduce my family here to my family there. I’ve wanted to walk London streets again, feel the history of the place and visit some of the places I remember from my childhood.

What about you guys? Anyone else prefer staying at home to heading out into the wide world? Anyone else have issues with travel?

Yes, I have been on planes where we couldn’t have anything with nuts in it because of someone being allergic. I get that, and I am happy to comply, but I am a little resentful that food allergies that can stop someone breathing are taken much more seriously than scent allergies… that can do exactly the same thing.

I hadn’t even considered packing when I wrote my answer. Packing is a nightmare, and I don’t know if this is just my family, but we generally came back with more stuff than we took away!
