So there are some things I used to try before the heat got insane (heat dome, anyone?). These include staying inside on the lower floor of my house, lying on the floor, using water misters that I’d kept in the fridge, fans, cool beverages and moving as little as possible. All helpful, but really when it hits a certain level that ain’t gonna do it. We got a portable air conditioner a few years back, then another, and that’s been what has saved us the past few years (including during said heat dome). I have medical issues that make me more vulnerable to heat (I’m not even supposed to go in hot tubs), so I have to be more careful, so we are actually getting AC installed in our next home because the way things are going, it’s going to be necessary for us to survive!
What about you guys? Do you live in particularly hot climates? Do you tough it out – if so how? Do you have AC and rely heavily on it like I do?

I live in a place where people come to cool off. It’s alarming to see the amount of local warming that just a little more pavement has produced on the other side of the mountain, though.
Yeah, it’s becoming pretty scary just how much we have changed our environments – and how quickly that change is now manifesting! When I was a kid the only place you found AC here was public buildings like office buildings and hospitals and grocery stores. Now it’s becoming more and more common in homes, and I suspect most new ones have it included now. I used to walk down the street and see portable AC units in more than half the windows before I moved last month. It’s getting dangerous how hot it gets, and really unpleasant!
I’m glad you’ll be getting AC installed in your next home.
Yeah, it’s good so far, though of course the one vent that serves the two areas I’m in the most doesn’t work very well, so it still gets up there on hot days!
Couldn’t survive here without AC.
Yeah, it’s becoming true of my area now as well, unfortunately!
I live in a hot area (the Deep South, a Gulf state), so we have plenty of AC. I stay near it with ice water and stay in light, airy clothes. On Sunday I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts under my choir robes. XD
Yes, I can only imagine how hot it is in southern areas! We’re getting to a level here where when I go outside it feels like I’ve walked into an actual substance rather than air. It’s oppressive and not very fun! Lol @ t-shirt and shorts under your robes – great idea!
Air conditioning sounds delightful. It’s practically unheard of here in the Uk, though, I think it’s going to become more and more common as the planet gets warmer. Summers seem to start earlier and run warmer than ever.
Yeah, it wasn’t common here in Canada either until recently. About five years ago we started having higher temperatures in the summer and at first all the stores sold out of portable AC units! Now more and more people have them or have installed wall-mounted AC in their homes, and I expect that most new homes will now have it. It’s still a tricky thing though as a lot of communal living situations (apartments, strata run complexes) don’t allow proper AC due to either rules about what can be put outside or the noise of the outdoor units. Hopefully there will soon be a way for more people to get it installed, but for now I’m seeing more and more of the portable ones hooked up to windows as I walk around!
