WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | MY THEME SONG

I love music. I have spent a lot of my life with certain songs on repeat, and I’ll almost always have a few songs I’ve recently discovered (though they may not be new songs) that I’m obsessed with. So if the prompt were some songs you’re really into right now I’d be totally set. But a theme song? That feels like a whole different level of commitment to a song, and it’s hard to choose just one!

I think, on reflection, that this song most aptly captures my general outlook during current times, but also in life in general. Things are never perfect. There’s always something that sucks or that you’re sad about or that you’re regretting or that you’re dreading. If we wait for things to be perfect before we allow ourselves to be happy…. well that’s going to be one long, unhappy life. So I love this song. Not only is it upbeat and fun to dance to, but the words are good for reminding me that everyone has challenges. Everyone has bad days. Very few people love their day-to-day, and most days aren’t the best day. It’s alright, just keep on going.

I love Atmosphere – they’re one of my favourite live shows and I’ve seen them at least three times over the years. Not only is their music great and the shows fantastic, but Slug (the MC) is a really decent guy. One of the shows I was at he paused the show mid-song because he noticed one of the audience members at the front wasn’t doing very well. He got her and her friend up on stage and waited for medics to take them backstage to take care of her before starting the show up again. At another show someone (not the brightest) was throwing stuff up on the stage – flowers, random stuff, then their wallet. Again, he stopped the show, called out “yo, you might need this later,” checked the name on the license and waited for the guy to go up and retrieve it before starting again. I haven’t been to many shows with an MC or lead singer who cares that much about what’s going on with the audience, and it makes their shows feel more laid back and welcoming. Definitely recommend checking them out if you ever get a chance.

I hope you enjoyed that, and that maybe it helped someone feel a bit less down! If not, which song to you feel best captures your mood in the current situation? Are there any songs you go to when you need a pick-me-up?

Can’t help but bop along with that, for sure! 😉 I’m an 80s gal and would probably pick Pat Benatar’s All Fired Up. But I love so much music!

Definitely. I think that, as a woman, it is also great when you go to a show and feel like someone’s looking out for you – that’s not always the case! I always felt more like I could relax at their shows. I think the performers kind of set a tone, and if they’re setting the example of looking out, others are more likely to follow!

I’ve never heard of them, so listened… it’s a bop! And the words are great. Seriously. Thanks for the introduction 🙂

I’m so glad you liked it! They have a ton of albums and there are a bunch of songs I love. This one is the one that always makes me bop along and dance if I’m alone though, for sure!

I am not acquainted with either the band or the song, but I like it a lot. (Apparently this week’s prompt is going to be adding to my music collection instead of my TBR pile. I am okay with that.)
