WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | SCI-FI BOOK I’D LIKE TO VISIT

Come on, guys. Seriously, I feel like there are so many questions about fantastical animals and sci-fi/fantasy books on this list! Nothing wrong with that of course, but as I don’t really read those genres, it’s getting tough for me to find something to write about! On top of which most of the sci-fi I’ve read isn’t exactly cheerful. The Martian, LoTR, Hail Mary…. why on earth would I want to visit any of those??? So yeah, unfortunately I really don’t have an answer for this week’s prompt. So I’m turning it over to you guys. I know some of you are avid sci-fi readers, so can you tell me about some sci-fi books that are ones you’d want to visit, and why? Share any thoughts you have in the comments!

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is a blog hop hosted every Wednesday by Long and Short Reviews. The weekly prompts range widely, including both book-related and non-book-related topics. The idea is to get bloggers to interact, share a bit about their lives and connect with other bloggers. Click here for the list of upcoming topics, and visit here to join in the fun!

Right? That’s the thing I kept coming up against. There were the books with great stories and characters I’d like to meet, then there were the stories that would be interesting because of being in space or whatever…. but would I actually WANT to go? No, no I would not.

I feel like I am more of a fantasy reader than a SciFi reader. I am not big on space, aliens and the such but I do like some of what falls under the fantasy genre like fairies, elves, goblins, vampires, etc., etc. But I could see how if you aren’t into those types it would be hard to answer.

I read the occasional sci-fi (Hail Mary most recently) and the occasional fantasy (Spinning Silver last year), so it’s not that I don’t EVER read these genres. But I think it’s more that the question was places from sci-fi you’d like to visit…. and is it just me or are most sci-fi settings not exactly dream vacation spots? Like I don’t want to hang out in space on a broken spaceship or head to Mars to be stranded there or go to a fantasy village that is regularly attacked and seems particularly horrible for women. So then that means the ones I HAVE read really aren’t any use!

Hmmm. That’s a tough one. I would say just a more general “book settings you’d like to visit,” but we just did that for Top Ten Tuesday I think, and I’ve done it a few other times in the past. But that would at least have given me a shot! Maybe something like fictional events you’d like to attend, or fictional towns. Just something not as genre-specific, I guess!
