WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | SOMETHING LUCKY

Man, this is turning out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. I think the basic things – being born in a peaceful country in a family who had secure housing and food and access to medical care (that one has really turned out to be important for me). Those are the things we don’t think much about, but that are actually responsible for pretty much every other lucky thing that happens. And then, of course, I’m really lucky to have my kid. Specifically the one I’ve got. I know I’m biased, but I think my kid is by far the best kid, so that’s definitely my number one lucky thing out of my entire life!

What about you guys? When forced to pause and take stock, which things stand out as having been particularly lucky in your life?

That’s a really thoughtful answer, because yeah: I went into this thinking about specific incidents, not the sort of generalized luck that comes from having been born to good parents in the right place and time.

Yeah, one of the things I’ve been working on during the pandemic is really noticing all the things I have, because it’s so easy to focus on what I don’t. So when I’m feeling sorry for myself that I can’t got see my family, I’ll think about the people who have lost family members or been evicted from their homes, who don’t have food to eat, who have sick relatives they can’t get to. It’s been really helpful in keeping me from falling into a black pit of despair, and I think something I intend to keep trying to do! (Also I couldn’t think of anything specific, so it’s also that 😉 )
