WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | SONGS THAT CONFUSED ME WHEN I WAS A KID

I feel like we had this one before, and I didn’t have a very good answer then either. I want to say all of them? I didn’t always get the words right (this was before we had the internet where we could google song lyrics), and even when I did get the words, I often didn’t understand what they meant. No song in particular stands out for me, though there is one line from Beck’s “Loser”: “My time is a piece of wax, falling on a termite/it’s choking on the splinters.” That’s the only line that comes to my mind as having always proved a “what??!?!??!” response from me and my friends while listening. Other than that, music has always been a constant source of vague confusion but enjoyment nonetheless.

What about you guys? Anyone have a better response than I do this week?

Yep, the days before looking up lyrics led to a lot of interesting debates in which we were probably all a little wrong. On the one hand, it’s nice to be able to so easily track down info; on the other, there was a joy to those debates and to life having a little more of a mystery to it.

Yes, there was a very similar prompt here last fall, and another one at another site I follow last winter as well. Meanwhile I thought of two that used to confuse my whole family, and one that made relatively good sense to me but has confused many other people.

Okay, yes, I have a few questions for Beck. I didn’t come up with songs that *confused* me, as such, but I came up with some that are… I just don’t hear those kinds of songs anymore.

I have to say, I agree with you. Growing up, I almost never understood songs. However, it never stopped me singing ’em at the top of my lungs, much to rhe consternation of my parents.

Haha! Yep, I’m with you there – though my mum usually led the chorus (she once broke a toe on the fireplace while dancing and singing along to The Rolling Stones, it’s one of my few childhood memories)!
