WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | WEIRDEST FOOD YOU LOVE

I am NOT an adventurous eater. I don’t eat meat or seafood because I don’t like the strong flavours, I don’t like squishy textures like okra or eggplant, I don’t like strong cheeses and there are several vegetables I don’t like the flavour of. So when it comes to weird food… well, pretty much count me out. The only way I’d fit with this is slightly odd combinations and the occasional acquired taste. Like I love cheese and pickle sandwiches, British style (meaning cheddar and Branston pickle relish). I love peanut butter and cheese sandwiches, or apple pie with cheese. I like sweet mixed with salty – like salted chocolate. And I enjoy potato chips in sandwiches. But that’s about as wacky as I get, if I’m being honest!

What about you guys? Any adventurous eaters out there? What are your favourites? Any other conservative palates like mine out there, or is it just me?

I like to eat what I know I already like, but I am always willing to try new foods. The rule always was, in my house, “try it once” when it came to new foods and my family. I have to be careful, because some ingredients upset my system, such as: pomegranates, beans, and anything fried. I also have rules on things that I will NOT eat, such as: nothing with tentacles, as well as nothing that isn’t cooked. After that, the sky’s the limit! LOL!

You are much more adventurous than I am! I did try stuff more when I was younger. Unfortunately the whole meat range became unpalatable to me when I stopped growing, and it just makes me feel like running in the other direction now. Which really limits a lot of food options – I know I’m missing out, but I just don’t like it! It’s great that you are so willing to try new things, but I’m definitely with you on avoiding upsetting foods and tentacles!

ooh I haven’t tried peanut butter with cheese before – I do love sweet and salty combos, and cheese with raspberry jam in a sandwich is a favourite of mine

I can’t remember how I started eating cheese and peanut butter – maybe my mom. But I do like it. Also like cheddar with apple pie! I haven’t tried cheese and raspberry jam but that sounds amazing! I will have to give it a go.

Haha! Excellent! Glad to hear I’m in good company. My parents are both from across the pond – I’m the first in our family born in North America (only one, so far), so I was brought up British. Which, contrary to popular opinion, is a totally different culture than Canadian! We used to get British food whenever we could (grew up on M&S digestives, Bird’s custard, Bisto gravy and Branston – even Ribena when I visited family) so it always feels extra familiar and comforting to me! It’s not the world’s most exciting cuisine, but it sure does feely like home.

Salted chocolate is a very popular mix of flavours these days. I’ve seen it in so many different products and hope your local grocery stores have lots of options for you there. 🙂

Haha yes, it’s definitely something I’ve only come across in the last few years, and more so. I have one particular chocolate bar I like – I think it’s a local company (Coconama) – and it’s just dark chocolate with salt in it. Super simple! But it’s just delicious. Probably absolutely terrible for my health, though!
