It’s that time of year again! The Women’s Prize for Fiction will be announcing their longlist on March 10th – just five days from when I’m writing this. It’s always an exciting thing to see which books make the list – partly to see which of the books you’re rooting for, and partly to see which books you’ve never heard of will show up. Every year I discover new books and authors thanks to the prize. There are a few books I’m expecting to make the list, and some I really hope to see, so here is my list of the books I’m predicting might make the list this year!
Criteria:
Books that are eligible for the Women’s Prize must have been published in the UK between the beginning of April 2020 and the end of March 2021. The books don’t have to be by British authors, but must have been written originally in English.
I haven’t read most of these, so I’m basing this on how much chatter I’ve been hearing about the books and which I’ve heard the most positive reviews of. I’m not sure about some of these – I suspect Ali Smith’s book isn’t going to be put forward for the prize, for example. But I think I’ll have at least a few of the picks on this list!
What about you guys? Which books do you think will be on the longlist this year? Are any of these books on your list? Have you read any of these, and if so do you think they should be selected? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I would definitely see Transcendent Kingdom on the list.
Me too! That’s actually the only one here that I’ve read to the end (I’ve started a few others). I think it was very well done and brought up a lot of really thought-provoking issues and ideas. Which other books have you read that are eligible for the prize this year? I feel like if you haven’t read it it’s not worth reading! 😉
